AP CM N.Chandrababu Naidu once again reiterated his stand on EVM voting system. He said that EVMs are turning out to be a big threat to the democratic electoral process. He expressed these opinions a day after an Indian cyber technology expert claimed in London that EVMs could be hacked and the 2014 parliamentary elections in India were actually rigged.
While speaking in a teleconference with his TDP leaders, Babu demanded the election commission to revert to the paper ballot system by seeking opinions of all the political parties. Chandrababu also revealed that the 22 opposition parties would discuss the issue in their next meeting. He said that voters should be able to verify to whom he/she cast their vote. He said that all the EVMs should use VVPAT machines to assure the voters that their votes have been cast in a proper manner.
Chandrababu also said that he always encouraged technology but he cautioned that “We should be always careful whenever the technology is misused and we should devise a mechanism to put a check on the misuse.”
