The Union Cabinet has taken a landmark decision of providing reservations to the economically backward sections in the generation category.  This reservation will be applicable to jobs and higher education.   Government is tabling a constitutional amendment bill on Tuesday to make it a reality.
The political analysts are saying that this is a landmark move by the BJP government to consolidate the upper caste votes in the country in favor of ruling NDA government. The new reservations will be beneficial to the economically backward people in the castes like Rajputs, Jats, Marathas, Bhumihars, Brahmins, Reddys, Kapus and Kammas etc.  This move is also beneficial to the poor people in other religions as well.
NDA alliance partner and Dalit Leader Ram Vias Paswan welcomed the decision and termed it as historic.  RPI Party chief and NDA partner Ramdas Athawale said that it is a great move that would help the economically backward people among the upper castes. CPI(M) welcomed the development.  Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said that it was actually a long pending demand of their party.
Congress Party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi tweeted that the government announced the decision just before three months of model code of conduct come into existence and doubted it as an election gimmick.  AAP leader and Delhi CM Aravind Kejriwal tweeted that “I agree. The govt. should extend Parliament session and bring constitutional amendment immediately. Else it is merely an election stunt.”
